THE OUTCOME OF DECOMPRESSIVE CRANIECTOMY VERSUS THIOPENTAL THERAPY IN TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY: A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY

Abstract

Objective: To assess the outcome of decompressive craniectomy versus thiopental therapy in traumatic brain injury

Study design: A retrospective study

Place and Duration: this study was conducted at People's University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women Nawabshah from June 2020 to June 2022

Methodolog

The research included all traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients who underwent neurointensive treatment during the study period. A total of 35 of 609 got decompressive craniotomy (DC), while 23 received just thiopental. Four TBI subcategories were developed. Thirty-five patients who had DC therapy were studied. The thiopental/no DC group included 23 patients. For comparison, patient characteristics were given. The thiopental/DC-free group comprised 544 individuals without a total brain infarction. Total cerebral infarction: 7 individuals without thiopental or DC.
